Investigation Summary
The two aircraft, ZS-NJX and ZU-MMI, were former South African Air Force coastal patrol planes operated by private owners. The wreckage was not located until two days later when a police helicopter spotted the debris fields. The two aircraft struck the cliff face approximately 75 to 100 meters apart, indicating they remained in formation until the moment of impact.

The investigation noted that while the lead pilot was instrument-rated, the wingman was not, and the formation flight into IMC in mountainous terrain left no margin for error. No mechanical or technical failures were found to have contributed to the accident.
