An Imperial Airways Avro 618 Ten, named Apollo, crashed after striking a guy wire of a radio mast at Ruysselede during a flight from Brussels to London. The aircraft was flying at a low altitude of approximately 250 feet due to heavy fog, which had also forced the pilot to deviate north of the standard route. Upon impact with the 870 foot tall mast's support wire, the aircraft demolished the top section of the mast, lost a wing, and plummeted to the ground, where it exploded and was consumed by fire.
