Investigation Summary
The flight departed Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin at approximately 10:47 local time. About five minutes into the flight, at 11:02, the aircraft struck trees and then elevated terrain approximately 10 to 20 meters below a ridge line. Instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) were reported in the area at the time of the accident. The NTSB is assisting the Colombian government's Unidad Administrativa Especial de Aeronautica Civil (Aerocivil) in the investigation. While secondary sources suggest the aircraft crashed head-on into a hill during adverse weather, the NTSB record remains in a preliminary status pending further findings from the Colombian authorities.
