Design Philosophy and Capability

Developed to replace the An-12, the Il-76 was engineered for the Soviet 'Candid' requirement: transporting 40 tons over 5,000 km. It features a high-wing T-tail configuration with four underslung Soloviev D-30KP (or Aviadvigatel PS-90) turbofans. The landing gear consists of 20 wheels designed for high flotation on unpaved surfaces, and the nose features a glazed navigator's station for precision drops and landings in areas without ground-based aids.

Operational Safety Profile

The Il-76's safety record is bifurcated between technical reliability and operational risk. The airframe itself has demonstrated high tolerance for battle damage and mechanical stress.
