The leaking fuel ignited, creating a massive fire that was visible to witnesses on the ground and recorded by amateur video. The damage to the wing's lifting surfaces and flight controls caused the aircraft to bank sharply to the right. Despite the crew's attempts to counter the roll with full left aileron and spoiler input, the aircraft reached a bank angle of 70 degrees and descended into a housing complex under construction for the Pakistan Navy.
