Investigation Summary
The flight departed Anchorage for the second leg of its journey to Seoul. Shortly after takeoff, the crew failed to transition from a magnetic heading to the Inertial Navigation System (INS) track, or they inadvertently engaged the INS while the aircraft was outside the required capture envelope. This caused the aircraft to fly a constant magnetic heading of 245 degrees instead of following the curved R-20 airway.
