A prototype BAC One-Eleven crashed during a flight test after entering a stable stalled condition from which recovery was impossible. The aircraft was performing its fifth stalling test of the day to assess handling characteristics with varying centers of gravity. At 16,000 feet, with 8 degrees of flaps extended, the aircraft entered a deep stall, descending at high vertical speed in a horizontal attitude until it struck the ground with minimal forward velocity. All seven crew members, including the Chief Test Pilot, were killed.
