On the morning of January 16, 1987, the crew of Aeroflot Flight 505 was under significant time pressure. The aircraft was scheduled to depart at 05:55 local time, but cargo loading was not completed until 06:00. At 06:09:40, a heavy Ilyushin Il-76 took off from Runway 8L. The investigation determined that the calm wind conditions (1 mph) allowed the wake vortex to remain stationary over the runway, and the airport's minimum separation rule of one minute was insufficient for a light aircraft following a heavy one.
